Whoosh! And another month bites the dust!
The breeze you just felt was June rushing out the bottom of the calendar page…and Hello July! Summer is in full dress, and so are the LFM tables, all to get you ready, set, GO! for your 4th of July celebrating!
Lansdownians know a thing or two or six about celebrating the 4th of July. We know that you have to be at your favorite, long-standing parade-watching post by 9:00 a.m. sharp, or you might miss the whole thing. We know how to decorate bikes and baby buggies that will catch a judge’s eye. We know to get to the fireworks well before dark, armed with blankets, beach chairs and bug spray. And we darn sure know that all of this to and fro-ing means feeding friends and family ‘til we holler Uncle Sam!
So….watcha bringing to the party? Looking for a way to upgrade the usual burgers and dogs? We’re here to help.
Goodies for the grill? See Ben at Frecon for savory sausages and brats. Plate them up with some red and yellow tomato beauties or summer squash from Green Zebra. BULLETIN! Mike at Fruitwood says corn will be here!
If pies are the thing to bring, My House Cookies can do the work while you get the glory; or maybe you want to show off your mad baking skills with some of those sour cherries that will still be available at Fruitwood.
And what’s a pluot, anyway?…asked and answered right here! Frecon says this crazy-good plum-apricot mash-up (that’s three hyphens!) will be gone after this week.
Beef up the beverage cooler with one or several of the summer brewskis from Neshaminy Creek Brewing. And while you’re at it, make a date to paddle up said creek to see where their award-winning magic happens. If the gift of the grape is more your thing, Mitchell and Mitchell will be showing off four new varietals in reds and whites. Something for everyone.
AND THIS JUST IN!: Just to prove that we cast a wide net…this week’s LFM is reeling in a special guest vendor, Wild for Salmon, a local (Bloomsburg PA), fisherman-owned company featuring flash-frozen, sustainably harvested Alaskan Sockeye salmon. Catch ‘em while you can!
Whew! I don’t know about you, but I’m stuffed! Sated! Stuporous! Couldn’t eat anoth…But we’re not done yet…’cause we all know how the night needs to end…on a sweet note, a little sump’n sump’n…maybe a little salty sweet? Adult stuff. Yeah, baby! Now we’re talkin’ snack!
Just the thing for watching the fireworks or sitting over a last cup of fair trade coffee from Our Community Coffee might be a handful or three of Mojo’s Pop Co.; or to end with an actual bang, one of Cocky Confections fiery and very grown-up toffees.
And that’s how we do Fourth of July!
Start celebrating early! Come rock and roll back to the ‘50s and ‘60s with one of LFM’s very favorite musicians: Tom Boyd, aka Mr. Slim. I double-dog-dare you not to dance. And a Market Buck to anyone who comes to the Market tent wearing a poodle skirt, or bobby socks and saddle shoes.
One last note: If you haven’t already, please stop by the Union AA table to get your fireworks tickets and make a donation. Our 4th of July celebration, one of the few remaining in the region, is a labor of love supported solely by we the people, the heart of our small town. Please help us keep lighting up the sky.
And don’t forget to visit the LFM website and FaceBook page for other news and upcoming events.
See you at the Market!
