September Swan Song

We interrupt this letter for an important correction to last week’s essay…which you all read, right?   A Dark & Stormy is made with dark rumNot vodka!…so drop the Smirnoff, grab Capt. Morgan, and no one gets hurt.

Back to matters at hand…September.  It may be a long long time from May to December…but you can always count on shifty September to play both ends against the middle, as it starts its measured march from those long days to the sudden sunsets…a fond farewell and an eye on what’s next.  But like every summer baby, I’m never ready to ditch the bare feet for more sensible footwear and the dying of the light.

But since I haven’t found an antidote to time passing, I ultimately fall in line in (see what I did there?)…maybe armed with the afore mentioned libation to ease the transition, and, finally…buy the d__n apples.  The crunchy ones…tart, and solid as an old friend.

Next up, the Bartlett pears…yellow as sunshine, but tender as a baby’s bottom.  You can bruise it by looking too hard.

The squash are starting to look interesting, aren’t they?…acorn and butternut. They have a solid presence on the produce table…and an even better one when they’re sliced, diced, sautéed or roasted and served up on the dinner table.

BTW:  I hope you all make it a weekly point to visit Tucquan’s produce table… Last week it was groaning under perfect pyramids of beets, turnips and radishes that would have sent DaVinci running for his paintbrush.   The edible art of the Amish…all in good taste!

By now, all of you have hopefully found us at our temporary quarters on Highland Ave.  There’s plenty of parking, and all of your favorite people, and we’ll be here for the rest of the season.

If you’ve been, thanks for sticking with us.  If you haven’t…what are you waiting for?  We’re nothing without our customers.  Just follow the church bells.

Psst…c’mere…I’ll tell you a secret:  we weren’t 100% sure this move would all go as well as it has…but thanks to the hard work and effort of so many hands… a big thank you from the LEDC management to our borough council members, borough manager, Debbie Brodeur, our police dept., our borough employees and and our usual band of volunteers, we’re in it to win it.  And speaking of winning…plans are now underway for THE 2024 LFM BAKE-OFF!!!  Last year, with about a dozen entries, it was such a hit we decided to do it all again.  Rules are simple…all recipes, sweet or savory, must include at least one ingredient from the market. Stop by the Manager Tent to sign up and get the official details.  A sign-up link can also be found on our FB Page.

Artist of the Week: Lisa’s Shadowbox Express with an assortment of collectables and prints.

In the Music Tent: Popular returnee Rita Miller, with her guitar and vocals, and maybe even a surprise guest.  Rita always has us singing along.

On that subject, let me digress…Did you know that, besides authoring this awesome weekly letter, I’m talent wrangler for the LFM Music Tent.  That doesn’t mean I know anything more about music than knowing how to send out emails to our talented friends.  And I’m never disappointed with the response.  This year we’ve been introduced to some new sounds and rhythms, including West African drums and some history on the distant roots of some of our “American” soul.  Sounds and syncopations that tell our stories.  My thanks to them, one and all.

Don’t forget to read the rest of the LEDC newsletter.   ALSO, lots of news and happenings can be seen and shared on our LFM FB page.  Go there, too!

See you there!
