…And in just one more week, we’ll reach the end of our 2024 official Lansdowne Farmers Market season. Hard to believe how quickly it goes. But it ain’t over ’til it’s over, and we’ve still got some time to stock up on our fruits and vegetables, our cakes and cookies, our candles and potions and lotions. In fact, if we were chipmunks, our cheeks might explode with all the “oh yeah, I’ll need that” s.
If every year has it’s own flavor, this year, with heat indexes stuck in the 3-digit range, it was definitely “hot than a pepper sprout” for most of the season. But if you were there last weekend, the flavor was more like a refreshing drink of something cool. Perfect at last!
And this weekend looks to be just as delicious.
Speaking of delicious, have you tried Farmer Dan’s assortment of apples? Crisp and tart and crimson red or mottled green ’n rosy pink. Something for everybody. What’s your taste preference: sweet, slightly tart, or just pucker-up-and-kiss-me sour? I’m old enough to remember when it was much easier to make a decision, with just the usual triad of Delicious, Mackintosh, or those sour green bakers. My mouth starts to water just typing that last one. Today the field, or in this case the orchard, is considerably larger. Hard to tell the flavors without a scorecard. So…let me help. Or you can just ask Farmer Dan about his selection of the week.
NOTE! IMPORTANT TIME SENSITIVE INFO! Man does not live by produce alone. There’s poultry to consider…and this week and next is your opportunity to order your Thanksgiving turkey from Amos of Tucquan Pastures. Turkeys will run between 12 & 18 lbs.
You can also order chicken (whole and parts) and, depending on advance demand, possibly eggs and goats’ milk.
To pick up at our special pre-Thanksgiving Market*, place your order at Farmer Dan’s tent this week or next. *That Market will be held on 11/23, the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
Now back to us in our usual spaces… Between Doeleh’s empanadas and Meats by Meez there’s some protein possibilities to eat out of hand or take home for later…or both.
And carbs are in plentiful supply at Big Sky Bread and Aunt Verlea’s Pound Cake. And A Season Chef will be here right to the end, to fill the void left by Tom Connell’s cookies…along with a smorgasbord of sweets and savories for snacks and suppers. Make some space in your freezers.
And to continue on…toast to your own health with KayWay Juices; give your skin some pampering when the cold winds blow with some Very Good Body and Face Creams; and keep your spirits up and your home’s energy vibrant with Kiss My Soul candle power. Nothing like a cheery flame to light up a midwinter day. Make sure you have enough to make it through to next Spring!
So…you have your marching orders to get all this taken care of in the next two weeks…but it will be worth it. And what you don’t get this week, don’t forget that you have one more chance at our final regular Market…or as we like to call it, HALLOWEEN! We will once again celebrate the spooky season at this final market, with treats and music for all the costumed creatures, super heroes and heroines, and the just plain silly. Mayor Magda will be on hand to start the parade….I wonder if we’ll know which one she is….?
This week in the Music Tent: The guitar and vocals of David Fiorella. He liked us so much last time that he’s returning for an encore appearance.
OK, you have your to-do list…now add one more: Read the rest of this news letter for even more to-dos and updates. And you can also follow us on our Lansdowne Farmers Market FB page.
See you Saturday.
