We thought it would never happen but, just a little behind schedule, the Lansdowne trees put on one of the best shows we’ve seen in quite some time. And sunsets! Glorious sunsets! It’s almost enough to be grateful for the buckets of rain that brought us those colors and clouds. An abundance of beauty. Abundance. Harvest. Gathering. Gratitude.
Thanksgiving…what’s the first thing that jumps to your mind at the word? Food? Family? Football? Shopping? Whatever your pleasure (or vice) the Lansdowne Farmers Market will be here to help satisfy even the fussiest foodies with our blockbuster Harvest Bonus Market this Saturday, Nov. 17, 9am to 1pm. Don’t be left out.
This year as every year, we invite our entire lineup of venders to come for one HUGE market day, just in time to finish off that shopping list for the feasting to come…I tell ya, it’s madness! It’s mayhem! It’s marvelous! And be warned, you’ll want to leave some extra room on that list for some spontaneity! And isn’t that the most fun of all? Psst! My most inspired impulse buys last year were the mini mixes from Kake Mi Cakes. Stocking stuffer gold!
And to get you or someone you love through the long winter, be sure to stop by the Artists’ Tents (that’s right…plural!) for some serenity. Rained out at the last market, Maura Williams Photography will return with her gorgeous handmade notecards… a great gift for yourself or someone you’d like to get a card from.
Can you say Hygge? (hue-guh). Think cozy…but rather than explain it here, you owe it to yourself to stop by to see Megan Halsey Art. Be warned: all of Megan’s designs are just as sneaky as they are sweet…you’ll pick it up because it’s pretty; you’ll buy it because it’s profound.
It’s quite a send-off before we batten down the hatches and close up shop. BUT WAIT! We may be subdued, but we’re not DONE here. Lansdowne still has lots of life after Turkey Day.
Be sure to check the full newsletter or visit the LEDC website for all the Holiday events.
But here’s a quick rundown…

And yet to come: The conversation is starting…
Lansdowne is preparing to add a referendum to the May 2019 Primary Election ballot to grant sale of alcohol in our restaurants.
To that purpose, petitions are scheduled to circulate beginning mid February into March. In the months to come, there will be more information about the petitions, along with signing events and discussions about the requirements for obtaining licensing and the regulations that the borough would impose to ensure and enhance the order, safety, and prosperity of our borough.
So, that’s it.
I’m signing off for the season, but not without beating my personal drum one last time. It’s Thanksgiving…be grateful for what you have, but mostly for what you have to give away. That’s when you know how blessed you truly are. Abbondanza!
And one last word of thanks to the people who make this whole LFM thing work:
How we do it…
Just past 7:30,
With a caffeine-cleared head,
Head for the parking lot,
Open the shed.
Out come the parking signs
Get them out on the block,
The trash and recycling cans…
It’s now 8 o’clock.
The tables, the chairs,
(Wipe them down if they’re dirty),
Then set up three tents.
Is it really 8:30?
Whose truck is that? It’s blocking the road!
The vendors need access to park and unload.
One vendor needs help…have we got a spare cord?
Then sweep out those puddles, ‘cause last night it poured.
Is the sound system set for this week’s musician?
911 to Bob Beach, talent scout and technician.
We made it! The bell rings.
And from 9 until 1
We make it all happen, like we’ve always done.
Then back to the shed,
With the tents, signs and tables
The chairs and the trash cans
The coiled power cables.
Make it all fit somehow,
Lock the handle and then
Come back the next week, and do it again.
Thanks to volunteers everywhere. You make the world work!
