Click Here: It’s Too Darn Hot!
HooWhee it was hot. How hot was it, you ask? Well, we didn’t have any eggs to fry, but if you had rolled one of Tucquan’s peaches across the midway you might have ended up with peach cobbler when it got to the other side. That kind of hot.
Hold UP! Did I say PEACHES??? Already? Uh huh…And these peaches were sweet…You could smell the perfume at ten yards. …and they were soooo juicy, and they were… RED?? I mean RED, inside and skin side. I do not know the variety…I’ll have to ask Farmer Dan this week. But, unless the heat was messin’ with my taste buds, they were perhaps the best, drip- down-your-chin-sloppy peaches I’ve ever tasted. And news flash: Dan is saying that sweet corn could be on the table, his AND yours, this week. What else? You know where to look.
Speaking of Tucquan, we had to say goodbye to our favorite counter man, Karl with a K. He will be gone but not forgotten…and if you should be up Lancaster way and see a guy hitch-hiking in a truckers cap with an LFM logo and a ‘Down-not-‘Dale t-shirt, be sure to honk our regards. We’ve reserved a chair for Karl in our Manager’s tent, should he find his way back to us.
You probably also noticed, if you were one of the stalwarts who came out in the heatwave, that there were a lot of empty spaces between vendor tents. No music in the music tent. We regret that, but it is strictly up to the vendor to decide if the prevailing conditions merit a risk to his/her goods, whether fresh, baked or jarred, or to their physical health. So, be happy that they have lived to sell you something at some other time.
And who will be coming next week? Check here for June 29
But the heat didn’t stop ALL the fun…as we closed down the LFM stalls, we made way for Lansdowne’s JUNETEENTH extravaganza…with food, games and good times for young and old. If you don’t know the reason for and the history of Juneteenth…take some time to learn a lesser known chapter of American History. We need to learn all of it. Lansdowne is so fortunate to have such diversity and so many ways to honor each others’ cultures…like flag raisings and festivals.
In the Music Tent: Hot guitar licks from David Fiorenza.
Now…Getting back to finding one’s way to the Manager’s tent…there could be a chair waiting for YOU as well. This week on social media there was quite a bit of chatter on how to improve what we’ve got going here. More farmers, more veggies, more heathy ingredients to take home and cook up in your kitchen.
You aren’t wrong. But you may also be under-informed as to the whys. This isn’t an excuse…it’s a reality that we’d be glad to share with anyone who wants to see our Farmers Market continue into the next decade. But social media isn’t what will get us all on the same page.
And to that end… Cue the lights, cameras and action. There’s some exciting news about to become a reality. It’s official…Our patch is getting a makeover. The decision to re-do the Landing space is now official…just waiting for a couple of tweaks to the plan to make the magic happen. NOTE: this may cause a slight hiccup in our market routine if we move operations to an interim location. Our job will be to see that that all unfolds as it should. YOUR job is to keep yourself informed in whatever way works for you…so keep your ears to the ground with a thorough WEEKLY combing of the LEDC Newsletter and page…and me, of course, which will keep you updated on the Farmers Market changes…so that you won’t miss a thing.
And…wouldn’t this new chapter be the perfect time for a new and energized group of volunteers (you knew I’d get there, right?) to take this Market thing into the future. Be a part of that.
Be there
Terry B.
