As I type this, the calendar is telling me we’re closing in on Memorial Day…but the chilly damp weather is trying to convince me it’s still March. I’ll have none of it! Cue the sunshine! Dig out those sunglasses and straw hats! Because HERE COMES SUMMER!
Welcome back to our town’s summer capitol (or is it capital?): the Lansdowne Farmers Market at The Landing. In case you didn’t know, our LFM has recently been in the news…with shoutouts on WHYY & Channel 6…and there’s likely more to come. So, from now ’til October this is the Saturday morning place to be, to see, to be seen. So be there!
If you’re reading this, most likely you’ve been here before…and signed up for this entertaining newsletter…which I’m certain you read from top to bottom….you do, right? If not, get in the habit…there may be tests. And just in case, here are the crib notes for opening day:
Who will be there? Besides you and yours truly? ALL of our vendors, the familiar and the hoping to become so, are invited to Opening Day. Just throw food, friends and funky music together and boy howdy, it’s a party!
To check out our whole season’s roster of vendors, artists and events just click on the LFM website and poke around a bit.
Before I go any further I’d like to give, actually I’d like you to give some love to all of your friends and neighbors who make all of this possible each and every Saturday, and all year long. It’s a labor of love that you just don’t see in every small town. Stop by the manager’s tent and say hello…and if you really want to thank them, consider joining them. There’s a lot you can do with just 30 minutes of your Saturday; helping set up or take down. Don’t just thank a volunteer…be one!
Summer reading: No, I’m not going off topic…turns out that fresh food and good books go together perfectly …so from time to time this season, I’m going to post some titles that fit perfectly into our mix. First up: a shoutout to Ben Hover for putting me on to Ray Bradbury’s Dandelion Wine. Tune out the 21st century for just a little while with this fiction-cum-memoir of life in a small town. It’s a little bit Our Gang and a little bit Mayberry RFD. I swear, your blood pressure will drop and you’ll develop a hankerin’ for ice cream and lemonade (both of which can be found at or nearby the LFM!).
Stop by the manager’s tent and tell us your favorite summer read and get a Market Buck!
In the Music Tent: David Falcone Almost as famous for his signature beard as for his acoustic guitar and vocals, Dave’s an annual favorite. Come sit in the Landing and mellow on out.
Artist of the Week: Liz Steele Coats and A New Creation. When I think sparkle, I think Liz. Because she just does. I think most of us have been Liz fans since she was a teenager. She’s grown up some, and expanded her craft… and her family! Stop by and see what she’s been up to lately… and buy yourself some bling!
Around town: Of course, this and every Memorial Day* weekend we honor our veterans from all wars with the Annual Memorial Day Parade. PLEASE come and join us in thanking the brave men and women who have served us all over the globe. The parade starts at 9AM outside Dollar Tree and ends at Penn Wood High with closing ceremonies.

Terry Baraldi ~ lookin’ for the sunshine …and you!
*For Memorial Day, or any day, I highly recommend the short ride out West Chester Pike, Edgemont (just past Mostardi’s Nursery) to visit the Delco Veterans Memorial. If you grew up in Delco, you’ll be sure to recognize many of the family names enshrined there. A peaceful place to sit and appreciate what we mostly take for granted
