In case you missed me last weekend…you did, didn’t you?… I was up, up and away to the Endless Mountains of PA, to take in the pre-peak but definitely happening fall foliage.
This also included a side trip to New York State and the hallowed grounds of the Woodstock Music Festival of August 1969. Maybe you’ve heard of it?
In case you’re wondering how I’m going to tie this into my usual LFM monolog…I’m working up to that. More than enough has been said about the music that marked that weekend, and the world. I may have just missed the flower-power boat, but I didn’t miss the message. Peace, Love and Let It Be. And nothing I could write would tell you more than you already know …so I’m not even going to try. But if you have the time and the appropriate props, find the flick Taking Woodstock…grab a beverage, maybe one you picked up from Two Locals Brewing, rock some tie-dye, and settle in. At least you’ll be warm and dry.
Can we talk logistics? OMG! If you were one of the 400,000 love children at Yasgur’s Dairy Farm (and at least 1,000 more who will say they were) in Aug. of 1969, you know what I’m talkin’ about…
So, in solidarity with the load-in crew… Next week, I promise not to complain about carrying one tent, one microphone and one speaker to the LFM Music Tent.
Now, back to the lowlands of Lansdowne…It’s hard to believe that we’re in the final weeks of our market season, and there is still stuff to do and fun to be had…
October 26 is not only our final regular market of the season, it’s the Halloween Kids Parade. The Market Committee and all of our vendors will be stocked with treats for the little goblins, princesses and super heroes. Music by Lansdowne’s favorite DJ, Joe Foley. All climaxing with a parade send-off by Mayor Magda.
NOTE: All adults entering the parade must be accompanied by at least one child.
There may not be any kids dressed as Jive Turkeys…( a Market Buck to anyone who can come up with a cultural reference ) but as we round the corner to Thanksgiving, we can tell you that Amos Stolzfus of Tucquan Hollows is planning on taking advance orders for actual turkeys, to be delivered here on the big Thanksgiving market to be held on Nov. 23.
Here’s the deal: He will have whole turkeys (between 12 & 18 lbs.), whole chickens as well as parts, and can also bring butter and goats milk if people are interested. There will be a sign up sheet on a clip board on Daniel’s table.
After the last market in October, people can call and leave Amos a message if they have an order. Number will be on sign-up sheet.
In the Artist’s Tent: Shore Connections. Who still has their high school charm bracelet? Who wants to start, add to, or complete a new one? Or start one for a special person who is making memories right now? Christmas is coming.
In the Music Tent: It was so nice, we’re gonna hear him twice…Charlie Bell and his guitar with the old songs we can sing along to.
Lastly but most importantly, we bid a fond farewell to Tom Connell and My House Cookies. Tom has been a regular since the early days, and I for one will miss his Peanut Cookies, his almond scones and his quiet good humor. As a Lansdowne resident, he’ll still be around…so this isn’t a Goodbye Forever, but rather a Nicely Done, Tom. And don’t lose that peanut cookie recipe. ***
***This just in: Ruth of A Season Chef to the rescue for all you cookie monsters…she will come every week and will try to fill Tom’s very big void and your sugar sweet spot..
So, winding on back to my Woodstock state of mind…I’ll see you this week, right through to Halloween. Look for me in our usual tent, where I Get By With a Little Help From My Friends.
And don’t forget to read the rest of this newsletter.
