Art in Nature…Nature in Art

At the Utility Works Kiosk June 12-26, 2019

A unique exhibit combining the shell collection of Susan E. Evans and the artwork of Todd Breitling. Inviting the visitor to see art from a different perspective and take a closer look at nature, the cousins have joined forces in such a way as to tantalize the mind and encourage guests to see nature in a new way.

Susan E. Evans started collecting shells at an early age when her parents ordered a 50 cent collection from the back of a cereal box. Over the years she has acquired close to 1000 different species. Although most have been purchased or received as gifts, she has traveled to Guam, Palau and Scotland on collecting trips. Her collection has been displayed at the Philadelphia Shell Club’s Shell Show, The Lansdowne Library and the former Wanamaker’s in Center City. Susan served as Editor of “Xenophora,” the Philadelphia Shell Club’s monthly newsletter for several years.

A long-time resident of Lansdowne, Susan graduated from Lansdowne-Aldan High School, DCCC and Villanova University. Currently she is the owner of three businesses: Your Office Assistant, Family Tales & Trails (Genealogy consulting and research) and Camp Sammy Sunshine (pet-sitting).

Todd Breitling, originally from Wayne, PA, began exploring creative ideas in the great outdoors and his grandparents’ backyards in Delaware County. Such moments laid the foundation for his artistic endeavors that are founded in the beauty of Nature. A self-taught painter and photographer Todd’s styles range from the abstract to landscape and street photography to macro photography.

Todd received a degree in Communications from Lynchburg College in Virginia. Moving back to Pennsylvania he began his art career in earnest. A job as a traveling portrait photographer often took him into Philadelphia. Here he discovered a whole new universe of city lights, textures and graffiti to photograph. In 2015 he was awarded the Mid-Atlantic Triple A Travel Photographer of the Year for “Walker and Bike” shot in Stockholm, Sweden.
