Here We Come Again!

What can be said about the season of ’22 that hasn’t already been said…about seasons ’20 and ’21?  Just when we think it’s safe to come out of hiding, Queen Covidia has another hissy fit.  But we’re nothing if not optimistic…because without optimism, we are exactly that…nothing.

And that isn’t how we roll here in Lansdowne.  We show up and we reach for the best, and we make the best out of what we have.  And it’s always good…the best, even.

So, come one, come all…I give you the 2022 Lansdowne Farmers Market!  The place to be on any given Saturday from Memorial Day to Hallowe’en.

In case you’ve slept through the last year, you should know that Lansdowne is on the move with some pretty amazing upgrades around town…from our finally completed Gateway Park on one border to a new playground on another; our natural waterways getting unclogged and gurgling as they should; and parks hosting goats for grazing events.*  Even our own space at the Landing will be getting a refresh over the next year or so, with more spaces to just sit and take in the passing scene, meet up with friends, grab a bite, or rock out with local musicians.

And word on the street…yes, this street…is that the Historic Lansdowne Theater will start this summer with the interior renovations, in the final phase before opening its doors to music fans in 2023.  Dreams can come true.

And the best way to keep up with and share all the news will be right here every Saturday from 9:00 ’til 1:00.

*Tongue twister alert:  Greedy goats grazing.   Come by the manager’s tent, say it three times fast and win a Market Buck.

Of course, you can come for the news, but stay for the shopping.   Each week I’ll try to set you up with what’s appearing in the produce aisle, but you can get your own jump on things with this handy list of what’s in season from month to month.   And that’s the pure beauty of a local farmers market…eating local means eating seasonally.   There are certain foods I wait for all winter long…From the first strawberries and asparagus, through the peaches, plums, nectarines, and tomatoes (O Lordy, the tomatoes!), to the melons and the last ears of corn…so worth the waiting for.

In addition to welcoming back some old friends along the midway, we have some new entries that we hope will become old friends.  Food that tastes good, food that’s good for you, even food for your face.  Oh my goodness!

It’s opening week, so ‘most every vendor will be here this Saturday, but not every week…so to see who will be here when, c’mon, you know what to do…go to the LFM schedule each week, ‘cause you don’t want to miss your must-haves.   And maybe add a couple more.

And one more thing…Lansdowne hasn’t run out of talented artist in all sorts of genres, so be sure to stop by the Artist Tent each week.  On hand for our grand opening is a sentimental favorite: Liz Steele Coates and A New Creation.  Those of us who got to watch Liz go from girl to grown-up can’t wait to see what she’s bringing to the party.    And shhhh! Rumor is that music may return to the macadam.  Stay tuned.

IMPORTANT CHANGE:  As we continue in our shift to an enhanced and improved market layout, there are some immediate changes in the motor traffic pattern.   All ENTRY will be from Lansdowne Ave.  ALL of the vendors will be on the left side (Todaro’s Music side) of the entire parking lot.   This will allow cars to EXIT via the right lane (PNC Bank side) onto Owen Ave.

So, this Saturday, whether you travel by car, bike or skateboard, make sure you set your GPS to Lansdowne Ave.  Meet’cha there!

Looking forward in Lansdowne
