Strike up the Band

…and if by band you mean eight little kids armed with violins, plus one intrepid teacher, that’s
how to kick off the grand re-opening of the Lansdowne Farmers Market Music Tent!  Add in all their proud parents and grandparents, plus any number of shoppers who were drawn in by the cuteness quotient, but stayed because…these kids were there to PLAY!

But if a more swinging sound is your thing…We give you the stylings of Chris Cross of G3Soul, a man confident enough to follow 8 cute little kids…fortunately no puppiesBTW: He’s a new resident of L’downe, so look for more from him at coming events, including closing out at the Juneteenth performers tent this Saturday.

Which all just goes to say:  Welcome back to the sounds that have been missing for so long.  More to come.  Stay tuned.

Next topic:  I’ve had a couple of weeks now to stroll the midway to see what’s new and I’ll try to give one or two some ink each week.  It will be up to you to check the LFM schedule to do your own market research.

Because of some of the new protocols surrounding food safety, one of the things that’s been missing for the last three years has been ready-to-eat street food.  But where there’s a will, there’s a way…so this week, make your way to one of our newest vendors, Doleah’s Kitchen, for some fit-in-your-hand-’n-ready-to-eat empanadas;  but don’t wait too long.  Their first day here, word spread quickly and they sold out before noon. Grab an iced latte from Camellia Coffee, and maybe take a seat at the Landing to give some attention to the Music Tent.

Of course, for more out-of-hand eating, you don’t want to overlook either of our produce tents, Tuquan Acres or Fruitwood Farms, while the cherries and strawberries are still in season.  And BONUS!  If you’re lucky, Tom at My House Cookies may still have some short stacks of perfect individual shortbread rounds just waiting to be smothered in berries and slathered with fresh whipped cream*.

*Homemade whipped cream…simple, straight forward and sooooo easy to …ruin!  Confess…bet you’ve churned it into butter at least once, amirite?   The trick to perfect whipped cream: These three simple ingredients, clean bowl, clean beaters, and everything cold, cold, cold.  And once you’ve begun, don’t look away ’til it’s done.

And don’t wait!…strawberries are here and then gone.  Then you’ll have to use all that whipped cream on…peaches!   Summer is here in PA!   The season turns on an incredible and changing pallet of colors and flavors…and you can know what’s going out and what’s coming in by keeping this PA Seasonal Chart handy.   Print it out and post it on the fridge.  Knowledge is power…

In the Music Tent:  (sooooo happy to be typing that again!) One of our favorites, the inimitable and instantly recognizable David Falcone.

And, as always, be sure to go back and read all of this LEDC newsletter for coming events and things to do here in town…oh, and jump on to our FB page for a tiny taste of last week “under the tent.”

Stop the presses!  I’m hearing rain drops as I type this…Yes, please!

P.S.

In case you thought that all this stuff happens with a wiggle of the nose or a flick of the wand…It doesn’t.  Small towns run on people powerThe LFM Management team is looking for/in need of able-bodied volunteers for set-up and breakdown each Saturday.  Anyone who comes to the Managers Tent armed with an email and a promise will win a Market Buck and a press-on tattoo (!).   PLUS: you’ll make some new friends!

Also, anyone having some familiarity with music and sound equipment would be rewarded with my unending gratitude.
