Sweat Equity

They say last Saturday was hot hot HOT enough to melt the pavement, but that didn’t stop the world from turning or the LFM shoppers from making their appointed rounds of the vendor tents.  It also didn’t stop the vendors.  Tucquan Farms didn’t let a little thing like car trouble stop the earth from goin’ round…No way.  The produce was already picked, packed and ready, with the temperature approaching Who needs a stove? point.…UHaul to the rescue.   And before 10 a.m. it was showtime.   Thanks to Daniel, his sturdy sons and their trusty sidekick Karl the Kibitzer, for saving the day and the dinner menu.

Meanwhile, Fruitwood Farms was showing off their new arrival…the first cantaloupes of the season!  And suddenly, weather or no, July is right on schedule…catch her while you can…and please, please, please don’t miss out on those sweet little plums like the ones I’ve been popping into my mouth since I got home.

Some buzz on a newcomer: Aunt Verlea’s Pound Cake Experience certainly was just that…an exercise in “oh yeah!”   Just the right toothsome-to-tasty ratio.  Neatly packaged individual cakes to take home…or not…depending on your willpower.  Experience it here…and there!

Have you noticed?  “Eat it right now” food is returning to the LFM midway.  Covid has had its moment, but finally, vendors are figuring out how to work through the new “hands off” rules now in place.  So, go on, grab an empanada from Doleah’s Kitchen, or a coffee (hot or iced) and sweet sumthin’ from Camellia’s or Big Sky Bread, or My House Cookies…or maybe chips and salsas from Taste of Puebla and one of the cold-pressed juices from KayWay or

4 Ever Juices  And bring your little dog, too!  Or any size pooch for that matter…because, Holy St. Rocco’s, Batman! We’ve thought of them too!  Then head on over and take a seat at the Landing to enjoy the return of the music.

And speaking of music…you’re welcome!   We are so grateful not only to the musicians who have lent their talents, but to the response from the crowd.  Please remember that these gifted people are playing for free and for tips.  So do make them glad that they came.   We’ve had some old favorites and some soon-to-become favorites this year as we rebuild our network of talent, and we and they really appreciate the positive response from our shoppers.  We still have more to come between now and October, from classic pop to classical.  And some funk thrown in for good measure.  So settle back and enjoy it all.

LFM Bake-Off:  It’s a real thing and now we can announce, with real prize $.  Could you use an extra $50 to spend right before Christmas?  How about $75?  Or $100?  They are the three gift cards that will be awarded, along with the2023 Triple B (Best Baker in the Borough) rating.  C’mon…you know you can win this.  The only rule (so far) is that the main ingredient MUST be bought from one of our LFM vendors.   Special consideration for use of an unusual LFM ingredient…Use your imagination and figure out how to satisfy a sweet tooth with a veggie or tortilla chip.  Come sign up…a Market Buck for all who do.

This Week in the Music Tent:  Mansfield Brass…No description needed.  They are now and forever a Lansdowne thing.

Volunteers…What…did you think I wouldn’t mention this?  If you can’t be one, please remember to thank one. That’s how we get paid.

BTW:  A couple of people have figured out how to send me a comment (hint: you just need to scroll down below my signature).  They may become my new best friends.  Join them.

And, while you’re here… don’t forget to go back and read this entire issue of The Lansdowne Link for all the local events and opportunities.

In the meantime, stay cool and I’ll see you at the Market.
