We’re Goin’ to the Dogs

Hope we’re all ready for this weekend’s big event… We may have passed the dog days of August, but the fun never ends at the LFM.  The Lansdowne Farmers Market, together with Animal Friends of Lansdowne, proudly announces the Return of Doggie Day

If you’re new in town, or just haven’t been paying attention, you should know that here in Lansdowne we LOVE our pets…and if we don’t have one of our own, we love other people’s pets.

That seemed like a good enough reason to resurrect the pooch parade.  So we’re polishing up the water bowls and trying to remember where we stored the judging stand.  We hope that YOUR favorite canine will be part of the fun, and maybe go home with a prize.  But whether in costume or come as you are, “boning” up (sorry…couldn’t pass that one up) on some special trick or just happy to be here, every dog is a winner.

For all the deets, you gotta read the Lansdowne Link Newsletter, but here’s the cheat sheet:

The parade starts at 11:00Sign in at the Manager’s tent no later than 10:45. There is a $2 entrance fee.  All funds collected will go to Animal Friends of Lansdowne.

Extra Special Event12 Noon, there will be a police dog demo with Lansdowne’s Officer Miller* and K9 Bogi.  Always amazing to see what these pups can do.

*And Officer Miller’s pretty smart too!

Dogs in a Pile…I was soooo excited to see another doggie event being held later this month in Philly…What could be more fun than a whole pile of dogs?!?! So I clicked on the link…Never mind.  I mean, you can go, but maybe leave the doggo home.

NOTE to all the cat owners…I should note that we also considered a kitty cat parade, but, well… the term “herding cats” is more than a metaphor.

I still can’t quite believe we’re into September.  One thing we haven’t run out of yet is the summer weather!  They say this is the last week in the 90s, but only Mother Nature knows for sure, and she ain’t talkin’.

I did snag some early plums this weekend, and a really good sugar baby melon.  So I seem to have a foot in both seasons.  I won’t be able to ignore those piles of apples much longer.  And I know I’ll love that spicy crunch when it happens.

Be warned:  the LFM Bake Off contestants are sharpening their pumpkin knives and apple peelers, with Cuisinarts at the ready.  Me?  I’m polishing my plate and my dessert fork…and appetite!  The anticipation grows apace…Are YOU one of the 18?  If not, feel free to stop by the tent and check out the list to see if one of your friends has thrown their toque in the ring.

In the Music Tent:  Sadly, for unavoidable business reasons, our scheduled musician, Sebastian, will be unable to be here. He wants everyone to know that he is even more disappointed than we are.  While I’m prepared to fill the void with my repertoire of show tunes, I have a feeling that my four-legged audience might be even tougher critics than my two-legged friends.

As we slide out of summer into the hyperactivity that comes with Fall, please be sure to read all of the Lansdowne Link for the full slate of what’s coming up…not the least of which is Arts on the Avenue, Sunday, Oct.1.  You recall, this normally rain-or-shine event tossed in a very wet towel in the face of  last year’s very inconvenient hurricane…so we are ready to make up for that this year.  Come support your town and our artist community.

See you at the pooch parade!
